    Coleton Fishacre - Dartmouth

Taken from one of the viewpoints in the gardens of this superb property. Worth a visit if you are in Dartmouth.

With my usual apologies for not being here as often as I would like.

Really nice image and processing Not sure the fence post adds anything, although I see that cropping it would also crop the tree. Was a spot two feet to the right an option?

As an aside, this is just down the road from me but, to my shame, I've never been there Perhaps this year, though

      Cheers,

          Thanks chaps.

John, I knew you were somewhere near Dartmouth. The house is worth a visit, vert Art Deco.

Thanks John, I may have a go at cloning the fence out actually.

I like the composition but to my eyes there's a bit too much magenta in the sky. Just my view of course

                  Re: Coleton Fishacre - Dartmouth

It is a good shot with a lot of potential, just needed a touch of final polishing.

Mentioned by others, I noticed the magenta cast first. Not sure how it would have got there, but if you used an inexpensive Big Stopper, many of them will create a cast. Second problem was the fence post and barbed wire. It ended up being the focal point of the image, but it didn't actually contribute in any beneficial way to the scene, so it had to go. You cloned it quite well, but using the same area to clone from, you ended up with repeated patterns, which is a dead giveaway to a cloning job. Another solution where you haven't got a lot of space to clone from is to cut a patch from a similar area, put it on a new layer and use the move tool to position it where you need it to be. A touch of blending in and job done.

                  Hope that helps.

I thought the fence helped give a visual boundary. Maybe giving it a slight blur would help stop it from being too dominant. I think I also marginally prefer the overly magenta to the overly green - maybe there is a halfway point!

Overall I like the composition and the feel of the image!

I appreciate the argument for including the post but feel it would need a larger section of fence to lead the eye. I think Colin's post removal worked better due to the lack of a repeated pattern but the magenta cast has been replaced with a green one. Still a nice image, though.

                        Cheers,
                        John

I'm another one who prefers the fence post in. I think it balances the frame and guides the view looking across the bay. And even the barbed wire gives a slight sense of desolation which suits the windswept mood. However I do agree with toning down the magenta cast a touch. And the little thing that Colin did which he didn't mention but it actually bothered me most was stopping the branches short of the frame.
But that all said, I think it's a cracking image, Patrick.

Thanks all. I wasn’t expecting the image to get so much discussion but it’s great as that’s what this forum is for, right?

The magenta cast was a deliberate addition as I thought it added to the image.

I actually prefer it with the fence in, not sure why, I just do.

Colin - thank you for your feedback and the additional, work that you did. I actually prefer the magenta over the green but the thing about this togging malarkey is that we all like different things.
