    One opinion of 6D II

This is an interesting comment on the 6D II (and Canon's general attitude to new models).

It's the time of the year in which rankings appear all around the Internet spotlighting the best performers of the past 12 months. But what about the worst? As the French writer Beaumarchais once said, “Without Freedom to blame, there is no flatterer's praise.” Here is my take at the worst 2017 camera, the Canon 6D Mark II. Back to the Future It must have been one of the easiest camera designs in Canon’s history. Take a Canon 80D body, add the Canon 6D sensor with a small resolution boost and degraded dynamic range, shake it up, and stick a Mark II label on the frame.

Before leaping down this guy's throat, note that at the very end he does point out that he is a Canon user, so not the usual Nikon/Sony user bashing Canon.

Re: One opinion of 6D II

    Interesting views....factual and thought provoking.
The 6DII is perhaps fairly criticised but with ISO and DR performance already above the threshold where it no longer make a difference in 95% of shooting situations...does it really matter.
A mirrorless FF would be very interesting....but would that mean a new line of lenses?

Re: One opinion of 6D II

I think the following quotes from the article are where I agree "To be fair, the 6D Mark II is not a bad camera................ The main problem of the 6D Mark II is not the camera by itself but its poor price-to-features ratio." I feel exactly the same about the 200D, I like it a lot but why give it the same viewfinder a/f system as I have on my 10 year old 450d? Surely only to protect sales of the 800D.

It just seems that Canon continually release new models which are only small improvements over the previous ones, while other manufacturers are making bigger leaps. At the same time they restrict (cripple, some people say) models to protect sales of the next one up.

Consider this. you want the highest pixel count and resolution, buy the 5DS(R)
But if you want more frames per second (and other things), buy the 5D IV
You want an articulating screen, buy the 6D2
You want ALL of those? Don't be silly, that's not possible. Oh, wait a minute, you CAN have them all in one body- it's called the Nikon D850 (at the same price as the 5D IV).

Like most people here, I'm tied into Canon and even without the latest models I'm still happy enough with what I have. But in order for them to produce more stuff for us in future, they need to pull in new users and that is going to be more and more difficult as they fall further behind in ratings and reviews and as mirrorless really take off (though not Canon mirrorless).

At the beginning of last year Nikon were considered to be down and nearly out, having been overtaken by Sony in sales, but the 850D has changed all that. Perhaps Canon will need to do something similar. Do we really need 4 models with the same APS-C sensor (200D, 800D, 77D and 80D plus perhaps the 7D3)?
