A 5% rejection rate for birds in flight is about as good as it gets Jeff.

          Well done for persevering.

I have about 5% keeper-rate for BIF but the only blame is towards the person using the equipment!

I've worked out that the Canon 400 mm f5.6L weighs 1610 grams (over 3.5 lbs) less than the Sigma 150 - 600 Sport. Does that make it a lot easier to follow a bird in flight? I find it tricky even with the Sigma C version, which is a lot lighter than the Sport.

never yet had that problem Richard ,I do find that the 1D series bodies help to counterbalance the big lens or a battery pack on the xx series .
but then again I,m a rather large chap as well

Looks good Jeff. The 400L is a damn good lens seeing how old it is...

Also proof that you don't necessarily need IS, at 1/2500 it would be redundant, but some people do seem to think it's always essential.

but then again I'm a rather large chap
Yeah, I'm about 5' 11" but only just over 11 stone. The other thing is, while I know how to stand with my feet in the right position for maximum stability I usually forget.

Once we get out of this dull dismal cloudy period, I'm going to the nearest bit of water to test out the Sigma 100 - 400 on the BH Gulls there (the only ones we have this far inland), never had much success with the bigger lens.

We all start around that percentage Chris, but generally, it gets better from there.

I used to have many images of just birds tails and many more images of just skies.
