Having looked at this I’m wondering if you had considered a vertical crop Alex?
I think the subject fits well with the background. How did you light this.

Lovely lighting Alex and it really suits the flower.

If I may suggest:

• Lift the shadows just a tad locally for some of the foliage.
• A square crop would really suit the image.
• Print big and hang on the wall.

Peter, Colin, Tom, Stan, thanks all for stopping by and your positive comments. I did consider a portrait crop when taking the image but wanted all of the focus to be on the flower, or actually mostly on the emerging central bud (it was going to be my Challenge entry but I felt it didn't quite work for that). So once taken I did try a square crop but didn't quite like it, don't know why, I'm just not a fan generally. But I'm sure it will end up square now. Thanks.

According to Mrs C .............. I was borne square and have kept in regular practise ever since!
