    Peir of the year2008

But this image is from July 2011. However I have revisited it and processed it today. This is a ten second exposure, taken with a 50D and a 24-105L lens.

I must go back sometime to see if the pier is still illuminated. As always your thoughts/comments are welcomed.

    #1 original posted image.

#2 Tweaked image following Ian's comment regarding the blue colour. I've tweaked the temperature and tint. This is Saltburn Pier just in case you thought I couldn't spell pier (see thread title!)

Nice shot - and far better on Flickr.

I did a quick Google to see where it was and found this. There's an interesting challenge there for someone to photograph each & every Pier of the Year winner!

Glad you liked this Chris That sounds a bit of a challenge to visit all of the pier's Chris especially if you wanted high and low tide versions but I suspect most people would want to capture high tide versions.

I think both versions are good Peter.

The second is more natural, but the first has a terrific "out of this world" feel to it.

Thanks John , I see what you mean about out of this world. It sort of reminds me of street artist I watched on the Balearic's, they were using spray paint cans to produce night sky paintings with deep colours and full moons Japanese pagodas etc.

I do prefer the 2nd edit and whilst its still been well "cooked" I really like what you've produced

Thanks Colin I agree with your thoughts. I must remember to walk away for a while after having processed an image. Then look at the image again with a more critical eye. Hopefully to be able to feel happy with the edit without needing to change it.

Peter, another vote for the second. Lovely image. In the first, for me, the darkness means the end of the pier gets slightly 'lost', at least until you study it. So the edit gives more immediate satisfaction. A very minor suggestion, and this is just because it is such a graphic image, is that a slight skew to the top left corner would straighten up the pier.

                          As above...prefer No2.
The 50D is a fine Camera.....although I don't have one now Im always impressed with my images taken a few years back (accounting for my frailties as a photographer of course)

Thanks for looking and commenting Alex, I better not skew the pier though the local council may not be pleased with me. As an aside you cant get directly in line with the pier at that shooting position as the ticket booth for the funicular railway (cliff lift) sits in the way hence the slight angle.

I too no longer have the 50D. But I agree in its time it was a good tool and having looked back at images that it produced for me I wonder why I upgraded
