    Rainy Day

A few days ago there was a period of a light steady rain and very little wind that resulted in the trees in the garden being festooned with water drops, I thought that I might be able to exploit this to get a picture. I took a range of shots and I think that this was the best one. I wanted to see two or more drops on the same branch, this does at least do that and shows the rain as well.

Any comments would be very much appreciated especially with regard to the composition.

Good attempt. Has good DoF but really needed a less busy background. The blur reduces it impact somewhat but if it had all been like the upper half it would be more effective, the rightmost bud is getting a bit lost against the light colour behind.

Also when using shallow DOF it better not to have too much out of focus foreground and one should always avoid having something totally out of focus cutting across the main subjects especially when it's large in the frame. When you have some control over the situation it pays to take your time and look carefully around the viewfinder to see if anything's out of place before pressing the shutter button - of course this is easier said than remembered...

Thanks for the comments Nigel and Tom, they are appreciated.

The view point I had was restricted, I was looking for a smoother background but I couldn't find one from where I had to stand (in the dry in the conservatory!) and get the image that I wanted to see.

I would second Nigel’s comments about the OOF branch ...... this cuts across and ends up right in the middle of the picture.

Sometimes just a small movement from you can make a big difference to what’s in your viewfinder ....

            Thanks for the comment Lunarbo,
The camera was mounted on a tripod at the time so perhaps in hindsight I could have dropped it down a little so that the offending branch effectively would have been a little higher and a bit more out of the way; but not by a lot as if you go too far another will take its place!
