    Default Tornado on NYMR

I had booked tickets to run on Tornado for a surprise Birthday Present for the Bride. Unfortunately due to weather conditions the first weekend journeys (3rd & 4th March) were cancelled. I rescheduled for Thursday 8th March only to be thwarted once again by the weather, we just couldn't get to Grosmont in the car due to a relatively short snow storm that caused havoc on the roads. It just wasn't safe to be out and about in a vehicle during the storm.
Yesterday the weather was great with a strange light in the sky. But we still were driving in low cloud on the road down to Goathland.

This is the Tornado on it's first run of the morning heading for Pickering.

A great image Peter - a good lead in from the wall, then a lead back from the carriages to the engine - and all of that with plenty of exhaust!

Colin, it would have been great if you had been there.

But as you weren't there and without the benefit of time travel you could experience the runs complete with moving pictures and a birdsong soundtrack by checking out this LINK. You will have to provide your own ice cream/popcorn whilst you watch the video. My only involvement in the video was uploading to my web site the camera person was the current Mrs S . There's also a couple of the Flying Scotsman running on the NYMR uploaded on the web site too.

Lovely photo Peter ! Had the pleasure of being in the first coach on the Saturday Lunchtime Run , she made a beautiful sound going up the 1 in 49 to Goathland ! We were on the Pullman train in the first episode of the Programme but luckily managed to avoid the cameras , just waiting to see if we did the same for the summer fortnight we spent next to the railway ! We got another fortnight booked in September this time right next to Levisham Station .

Thanks Gordon. BTW It seems that they are considering moving Tornado by road due to damage to a bridge on the Middlesbrough to Whitby main line!
