The house at the foot of the hill

The house at the foot of the hill

I don't usually attempt to convert to B&W but felt this might work. Looks darker than on my monitor so welcome comments!

The lower half looks a bit dark to me...it makes a much better impression on flickr when viewed at a better size

I would have to agree with Brian in that it looks much better on Flickr and with Ian that the exposure works well for this image. Nicely done Andrew

I agree Brian, which is why I was a little disappointed once I previewed the post!

Thanks Tom; if the mono master thinks its ok then I am very pleased!

Re: The house at the foot of the hill

Overall it's a tonally a bit flat and underexposed for my taste. I also struggled to find the house in the gloom plus it's close to being obscured by the very intrusive copyright text...

Below I've brightened it and locally adjusted the sky and foreground contrast to give a bit more definition to the snow and the house itself...

I very much like the composition though.

It's a fine composition and I do like the mono treatment which brings out lots of lovely shadings on the hills.

Can you humour us colouristas and show us the "proper" version??

Love the original mono, but Nigel's tweeks have added some more punch to the shot.

Thanks for taking the time to 'play' with the image Nigel. I can see where you are going with the changes and as I said I do not use B&W often so opinions are welcome.

Thanks Bo, I will upload a colour version for interest. However I was struggling to get the detail in the mountains without introducing colour casts, again lack pf processing skills I suspect!

Thanks Colin, might be a little more punch was needed.
