    Peeking Red

A good morning spent on Brownsea shooting the red squirrels. The peacocks are such a pain now that it is best to encourage the squirrels into the trees

Nice shot Stan. Hoping to go over next week.
Was speaking to someone yesterday about Brownsea, he went over at the weekend. He said the problem with the peacocks around the Red Squirrel area is because at this time of year there are very few visitors. When the place is busy and the grass picnic area's are buzzing with activity, they get their free hand-out there - they associate people as a food source, photographer's with nuts- is that food source.
He said he put down six Hazel nuts at one point and a single peacock took the lot, he wanted to know how they digested the shells - I don't think they can, they pass straight through!

had not thought about the lack of people but makes sense - of course once the area is busy with picnicers, the reds are not going to be so visible as the best times to guarantee seeing them is between September and April.

As to the hazelnuts, they did seem to be "eating" them yesterday, which has not really happened too much in the past when they have just picked them up in their beaks and thrown them to the ground - just as annoying. Perhaps they are desperate to try anything now

Hoping to go over next week.
I plan another trip during the week too, depending on the best day weatherwise

Stan might be a good idea to take a loaf of stale bread, put it up amongst those fallen tree's trunks above the path from the Church, that would keep them happy for a while.
