    'Lyd' and Porthmadog Grime

I wasn't going to share this one especially as the colour original was disappointing. That said my recent exploration into the potential of old images produced something that, while still not over enamoured with it (I think the sky is a tad blown), I think is an improvement and has also become my fastest viewed Flickr by a long way.

I may re-process (RP?) the colour but I'm, not holding out much hope.

For the gricer (who will know anyway ) it's new-build Lynton & Barnstaple 2-6-2 No. 190 'Lyd' at the coaling and water stage at Porthmadog Station.

    Cheers,
    John

John you did very well as the processing really tells the story, along with the composition of the over all image .

Thanks Tom, I knew if anyone liked it it would be you

I'm getting more and more into mono these days and that enthusiasm seems to be shared among the Flickr groups I use as a colour image posted in, say, dedicated railway groups don't seem to attract the same attention of the mono version posted to the dedicated but necessarily railway mono groups.

      Cheers,
      John

I really like this. Reminds me of the coal wagons that used to leave the pit. Dropped on with the white building behind which makes the most of the heaps of coal in the wagons. Lovely image.

I think I know what you mean about the sky, John, the cloud edges seem slightly 'over sharpened' if that makes sense. But the scene itself is a cracker, full of interest and beautifully processed, perfect for mono just as you have done.

                      Re: 'Lyd' and Porthmadog Grime

Thanks Alex I may have a go at replacing the sky sometime although those I've so tried in the past have all looked fake. Interestingly, despite my reservations, a lot of the Flickerati seem to like it as it received over a thousand views in three days and is still attracting attention.

                      Cheers,
                      John

Clouds do look like they've gone too far and the whole image looks a bit over-sharpened but the subject and the composition are great.

                          Thanks Nigel.

I was just never happy with those clouds so replaced them with some taken nearby:

Nicely done, John. I find the thing with replacing skies is a) having one where the light fits the main subject and b) it's never as easy as you think!
