Not sure it was, Trev. It was very tiny and had a hairy tail not a naked one.

Hairy tail is normally a Door Mouse.

If it really has a hairy tail, and relatively small ears, surely it must be a vole rather than a mouse? Looks nothing like a dormouse, which are never found on the ground anyway and are strictly nocturnal.

Coming back to you on this one Carol -Looking at it more closely I think we have either a young stoat or weasel. What length was it and how long was the tail.

Re: Mouse (not sure what kind)

Sorry to cause controversy folks. The animal was quite long and I would say the tail less than half the length of the body, if that helps?

Looks more Stoat or Weasel to me rather than rat or mouse....could be stoatily wrong...sorry!

Yep - its was either Stoat or Weasel, I would put my money on Stoat

On a second look, I fully agree.

I was always told that weasels are weasily distinguished because stoats are stoatily different (runs, ducks & hides)

Guess we will struggle to get to the bottom of it , but think your way off with Stoat or Weasel , the coat looks to course and the wrong colour , the legs, feet and ears are not furry enough , I am going with vole , from Carols description the tail is to short for a Rat .
