    Kestrel 2018-1

Weather here in the Pennines has been pretty dreadful over last few weeks. We've had rain, snow and some floods. But worst of all was the persistent low cloud/mist. This made photography of the nest almost impossible.

Did see the male flying about calling a while ago so was hoping the female would be around soon. Few days ago heard some calling by kestrels in the mist and I was hopeful the female had returned.

Some better weather has allowed me to get some shots over last couple of days and was assuming the bird I was seeing was the male but after seeing on my PC I'm fairly sure this is actually a female. So it looks like their may at last be both sexes back at the nest.

Hope to confirm that both birds are back over next few days, off to Florence for a break soon so possible they might have started incubating by time I get back.

Off to Florence for a few days and was hoping to confirm that both the male and female were present. Over last couple of days have visited a few times each day and only ever see one bird. Which I think is a female, though could be first year male.

Today thought I'd spotted 2 birds though looking at the images can't really tell a difference.

Hope to be able to report better news after my trip.

Back from Florence last night and took a quick look this morning and it appears that incubating has started as a bird was sat in the nest. Hope to get some images tomorrow.
