    Focusing Rail

Anyone use a focusing rail for macro work or got one . Been looking at some quite pricey. It would not be beyond me to make one. Got loads of aluminium knocking around the workshop, think I will give it a go. Anyone ever made one.

I have one Trev, but at £10 for a 1 way and £17 for a 4 way, is it worth the bother of making one?

Well done Chris, that's the one. I modified mine to take a Manfrotto quick release. A lot quicker to work with, but the downside is just a hint more instability. Might go back to standard ............. not all of my wonderful ideas work for the best!

Thanks Colin, Chris. Think that will do the trick, save me having to make one although over the years I've turned out all sorts of gadgets when I was filming.

              Re: Focusing Rail

I have a couple of these with Arca plates on one,

To be honest I rarely use them and the second one not at all, I found two together a bit bouncy.

In fact I also have a RRS rail and carrier I find better, its not as fine an adjustment, but has a scale and pointer, but mounted on a ballhead etc its solid. one of these
