Which lens for a Windsor Walk about?

On a recent holiday to Seville, Córdoba and Granada I used the Tamron 16-300mm lens on my 80D. I have spent quite a few days on post production making lens corrections etc in Elements. Also, HDR had so much chromatic abberation it looked like beautiful rainbows!
Last year I used the Canon EF-S 18-135 in and around Dubrovnik, and post production mainly consisted of straightening the horizon. (The lens corrections were applied in camera, and thanks to Nathaniel’s suggestion for in camera personal Picture Style I didn’t have to sharpen etc in post production).
So do I restrict myself to the EF-S 18-135mm, or use the EF-S 18-200mm lens? I only want to use one lens.
Also, would you recommend using a Travel tripod? Not sure yet if we will go in the Castle.
Going on Saturday. Any comments would be welcome.

Tamron 16-300mm if you always want more reach or 24-105mm f4L if you want more quality

Sounds like the 16-300mm is not that great and needs work to get the best from it so if you are happy with the image quality of the 18-200 take that, 200mm should cover most telephoto requirements in an urban environment. I'd also advise taking the 10-18mm, it hardly weighs anything and I suspect that if you don't take it you'll inevitably find yourself wishing you had...

In similar circumstances my kit is body with 18-270 Tamron and 10-20 Sigma and that seems to be enough to cover most photo ops...

Thanks both. Decided on Canon lenses simply to save me post production time, but still undecided between the 135 and the 200..

My recommendation if you want reach and much better quality than the tamron 16-300 is Tamron's new 18-400. I have that Lens on the 80D and it works well. I use it for when on my walks or at my grandson's football games. I've posted a number if images here using that lens.

Thanks Tom, but I’m beginning to enjoy the lens corrections in camera to save work later. I would never say never, though!

Re: Which lens for a Windsor Walk about?

I have a 80d - upgraded from other Canon crops to this over the years - and throughout this time my Canon 18-200 has been my only lens to go travelling with. I'm on my second one after the first gave up, that's how much I love it.

Yes it has a bit of horizon dip but you can sort that out in PP. It's covered me from the outside view of a cathedral to a close-up of of the gargoyles on top. I don't think you'll miss the extra width of 10-18mm - and you did say just one lens.
On the other hand after I took the 24-105 as my sole lens on the 80d by mistake for a weekend in Paris I found I was missing bits of buildings I wanted- so that 18-24 range is crucial
My 400mm reach is mainly for wildlife/BIF and Windsor should be an urban day

Tripod? Nah. Fiddly & heavy after an hour or two. For indoor shots up the ISO as necessary and shoot in jpeg with high ISO NR. Or sit down with a table/pew/husband firmly in place in front of you and lock onto this. You'll be amazed what you can achieve

              Hope you enjoy the day!

Thanks. Just unpacking the tripod from the backpack!

I've been to Windsor castle....not by invite I might add....but I think the 10-18 is well worth taking for indoors...the extra width is useful....several rooms are long hall arrangements and I think that will help

Without the tripod, there is room for the 10-18.
                    Thanks.

Thanks for all the contributions. We went yesterday. Took the 18-200 and the 10-18.
Unfortunately we did not book in advance to go in the castle and there was a huge queue around it to buy tickets. Apparently people were waiting for over 2 hours in full sun. I couldn’t face it. Thought of booking online, but no tickets available for Saturday!
So we walked the long walk and then wandered around town; but it was so packed with tourists I gave up trying to take any photos and just enjoyed the place instead. We might go back in the Autumn since my husband found an excellent second hand book shop with opera memorabilia!

Oh bad luck....I hope you get another chance. It’s the same everywhere now regarding booking in advance it seems. It’s well worth going inside and the church of course if you like English history.

The hardest thing with the APS-C is close ups

I have the 10-18 and 18-135 for walking and closeups.
