Therefore, how can something like this https://www.eos-magazine-forum.com/s...033#post430033 be of use to newcomers like me?By answering the question in a pm,instead of openly posting it,when the problem happens to me again,I'd have to ask members, instead of just being able to read the solution for myself.

It's not my intention to ruffle feathers with this.

It may well be that David sent jimjohn an email address or web location in order to receive a copy of the original file to work on. Understandably he may not want such personal data to be freely available on a public website.

While it's a bit frustrating not knowing the outcome or how it was done I will say that from my own personal experience of recovering very heavily underexposed raw files is that the results are rarely satisfactory - better than nothing - but not usually something to show anyone else...

I agree Nigel...it left me intrigued to know if there was some magical technique to do this...but of course we would all like that.

OMG - really sorry guys, it was just to send John my email address so I could take a look for him, the photo was indeed really dark with noise off the scale but he just wanted it bright enough to see the bird for his own records.

    What I sent him back:

Thought it was easier than him trying to upload a raw file or me putting my email 'out there'

    Apologies again

Not quite as bad a start point as I envisaged but tricky nonetheless, nice job on the recovery...
