    Weird happenings on Flickr...

Yesterday I received dozens of 'likes' from several different people most of whom were new to me. Curious I looked at their own Flickr pages and found that all had yet to post any of their own work but their faves were in the hundreds behaviour which seemed odd and highly suspicious.

Has anyone else seen this? Any thoughts?

    Cheers,
    John

Yeah, I've been getting the same. If you go to their 'About' page there'll be a bit of text like "Check out my nude photos and videos here" with a url. I've just blocked them all (about a dozen so far).

Ah yes porn plugs, I hadn't checked their 'About' pages I've had this before but it's only been individual faves and then they've made the effort to seed the temptation with a few of their own pics.

This really is disappointing as I like to think my 'faves' are an indicator of how successful I've been in creating a pleasing image but, clearly, that can no longer be relied upon.

      Cheers,
      John

John, they tend to be out of the ordinary - I had three this morning and they all fave loads of photos at the same time so it’s easy to tell when it happens. You can go to their about page and block them which removes their faves and so on. Stupid, irritating and a scam but not the end of the world.

no point being over zealous with blocking people especially if they have a couple of good points

These are just internet bots that target various social media sites. Some are for porn sites other may be more sinister. Years in the IT business tells me the best thing is often to ignore them. Blocking can sometimes confirm that you exist and just invite more.

If we were talking about email spam you may be correct. In this case, however, the fact that these “bots” are faving your photographs suggests they already have a pretty good idea that your exist.

Flickr staff are asking that these instances be reported to them and thankfully the number of instances seems to be on the wane. They’ve probably updated the WAF in front of Flickr to block the specific bot that’s doing this, or something similar.
