Beauty is in the eye of the beholder!

Ugly Betty is a Gin Still in the Bruichladdich Distillery of the Isle of Islay. The metal container on the outlet from the still is where the botanical ingredients are infused in to the spirit.

Cheers John [emoji6] I understand that they bought Ugly Betty from a Distillery that was closing down with the intention of using it for Gin. It’s a totally different shape to the whisky stills they have, hence it being christened Ugly. They do a Gin called the Botanist John.

A cracking shot taken under what I imagine to have been difficult lighting conditions. HDR by any chance?

It’s a lovely shot if the Gin is good

Hi Nigel, no HDR the exif was ISO1600, f8, 1/30 second.

That gave me an exposure to the left of the histogram which I made even darker during PP. From that starting point it was just highlights and shadows and setting of the black and white points in LR. The over to Photoshop for to use NIK Define and Colour Efx Pro with the resulting Colour Efx layer at 35% opacity. Resized and sharpened for web use.

Not a fan of Gin.....only ever drunk it if I was already drunk and Gin was all that was left at a party....but those days are long gone so maybe I should try it again

Nice tones and complimentary woodwork and copper....beautiful.

I really ought to give the Nik filters a bit of a go as I have them on the PC. I have had a go at the HDR one but was less than impressed with the results - it didn't seem capable of blending the exposures any better than the basic PS option and the colour rendition was frankly awful...

Strangely enough Trev we always travel with tonic water. Not to add to Gin though, it’s usually diluted with plain old tap water as a refreshing drink whilst traveling and as nighttime bedside drink. I believe that my wife picked this up from one of the slimming club things. Apparently it was to help make drinking water a little more palatable for those who have a soft/fizzy drink habit.
My drink of choice when I’m the designated driver too. Having said all that it’s good with Gin too [emoji6]
