    The American Monument

The American Monument is on a peninsula of the Isle of Islay called the "OA" The peninsula, as well as this monument has a nature reserve (RSPB) with plenty of birds (Chough, Eagles etc.)a few Feral Goats and one or two Highland cattle and very little else.
Earlier this year the Island held commemorative events around the centenary 1918-2018. The monument was erected by the American Red Cross to commemorate the passengers and crew of two troop ships the Tuscania (torpedoed) and the Otranto (Convoy collision) that foundered in the sea around Islay.

#5 Looking South (Ish)from the monument to the area where some survivors and victims of the two vessels were washed in/up. With the Isle of Skye on the horizon.

    Nice shots and interesting history.

I didn't manage go there on my visit to Islay.

#5 You'd be hard pressed to see the Isle of Skye looking south(ish) from Islay. Skye is over 100 miles north - the land on the horizon is the Kintyre peninsula.

Cheers Skylines glad you liked these and thanks for the geography lesson [emoji106]
That’ll teach me not to check on a map before making an assumption, especially as Skye is North of Islay!
I wonder if the land mass on the horizon could be Northern Ireland as I think Kintyre maybe further to the left ?
