Manfrotto monopod 3/8” screw head stuck

Just went to fit a heavy lens on the Manfrotto 681B monopod, but the 3/8 inch screw adaptor is stuck, it will not push down to access the 1/4 inch screw. I don’t want to damage it with pliers unless I have to. Is there an easy solution to removing it? I don’t want to take the tripod out every time I want to use the lens. (A big beast for me, a Sigma 150-600mm, bought secondhand and arrived today).

You could try some WD40 or 3-in-1 to ease the lock. Then place an open pair of pliers horizontally so they are just resting on the 3/8” but clear of the 1/4” and tap gently with a hammer to try and free the jam - but be careful not to damage the 1/4” thread ...

Gently heating it up or cooling it down exploits the difference in expansion rates of the different materials...might loosen it....

        SORTED
        Found an alternative solution.
The 3/8” thread is still stuck, but when I removed the tilting monopod head from my lighter monopod, I remember having to screw into the hole a 1/4” adapter. So I unscrewed the adapter, converting it back to a 3/8” thread, and it will now screw on the larger monopod!
So a bit of lateral thinking worked!
        Thanks for your suggestions.
