Somerset Cider Pubs Part 1 - Tucker's Grave Inn

I spent a weekend in NE Somerset recently 'researching' a couple of rural pubs that are on CAMRA's register of historic interiors - that is interiors that have remained unchanged, often since construction, and reflect a lost time when service was direct from a barrel and either through a hatch or often simply through a doorway. Both pubs predominately sell cider.

This is the Tucker's Grave Inn a couple of miles outside Faulkland (where the village pub is closed):

The rear of the pub is where the entrance is. Note the sign by the door - whether for the low ceiling height or the cider was unclear:

The bar is so small a lot of activity takes place in the garden:

As the evening cooled off a fire pit large enough to burn whole fence posts and even a table was lit. Everyone sat around chatting stranger to stranger something very rare these days.

We stayed in their 'wild' camping field which is a wonderful rural retreat worth visiting even if not the pub:

Another great set of a theme well worth exploring some more (not only do you end up with great images but you see lovely historic places and get a decent pint of cider). No 4 is an excellent image; you get a great vibe.

What a great theme and you get to drink the famous Somerset falling down water. Drink some, fall down, wake up a few days later!

What an interesting set of images. As Alex noted the shot by the fire is very effective. Well thought out post showing a day in the life of the pub.

Thanks folks I'm glad you enjoyed them as much as I did doing the research although I was a little disappointed not to have got more of the interior - I suppose I'll just have to go back

                Cheers,

I'm afraid I cannot claim to have visited them John - my nearest "proper" cider pub is probably The Blue Flame on the far outskirts of Nailsea, but again I have not visited it yet (it is out in the "woilds" and until recently at least, very local)

A very nice documentary project...it could do with some pictures of cider for context I think
