Fortunately our existing kit will continue to work as well as it always has, which in my case is better than I really need. I like to buy cheap second hand photography books. Many of these date back about 8 - 10 years when the 5D II and the 1DS III were the professional choice. Funnily enough, I don't remember ever seeing an image in these books and thinking "that would be so much better if only they had a 5D IV, a 5DSR or a full frame mirrorless body". It might be easier for the photographer with a later model camera, but I've not seen any improvement in actual images whether in books or on screen. The D30 is the only body I still have which I'd definitely consider obsolete, all the others are perfectly capable of taking decent images, it's the six inches behind the viewfinder that needs improvement.

Re: Canon full frame mirrorless camera
it's interesting that reviews of the new Nikons have been mixed, but very few people have their hands on them yet. I'm not in the slightest bit interested but I can't see anyone having a sensible view until the final model is in people's hands for real.
lack of native lenses is the thing that is holding back the Canon EOS M series.

Re: Canon full frame mirrorless camera
On the subject of slots, Thom Hogan has an interesting view on this. His usage, and he claims it’s that of many others, is to use only the XQD slot on his Nikons as the second slot is always SD - note the 7D II has CF and SD - and hence slower than the first slot. For action this slows the camera down quite a bit - writing to the second as a backup - so people have stopped doing it. To be fair, I did the same on my 7DII and now with the X Pro 2 because while the second slot is still SD, it’s much slower than the first. It’s one way to look at it, though wedding photographers probably won’t be following that chain of reasoning I guess....
You’re spot on with the 100D/200D. Very nice little cameras and it’s hard to see the benefit of one of the M series in terms of size, but there is the WYSIWYG viewfinder which makes getting exposure right much easier...EOS 7D mk II, Sigma 150-660C, Canon 17-85 EF-S, Tamron 10-24 and a wife who shares my obsession.

Re: Canon full frame mirrorless camera
Canon Rumours seem to think it's pretty certain (they went with a "confirmed" rating), and the launch date is close enough they could be right (Canon are great at keeping secrets until a couple of weeks before a launch)...
We finally have the full list of gear that Canon will announce on September 5, 2018.
Canon EOS R body
Canon EOS R w/24-105mm f/4L kit
Canon BG-E22
Canon RF 35mm f/1.8 M IS
Canon RF 50mm f/1.2L USM
Canon RF 28-70mm f/2L USM
Canon RF 24-105mm f/4L USM
Canon EF-M 32mm f/1.4 STM
Canon EF 400mm f/2.8L IS III
Canon EF 600mm f/4L IS III
The lens may have a different name, no confirmation yet.
M (or Mount) adapter R?
Since only “M.ADAP R” “M.ADAP R ND” “M.ADAP R PL” is written in the simple order form, the official name is unknown
PD – E1 is also included in the accessory list
Is it wrong I want the 400 III more... ???Last edited by DrJon; 31-08-2018, 16:46.

Re: Canon full frame mirrorless camera
Yep I saw this earlier as well , canon f/f mirrorless , and followed by on the 25th Panasonic FF to and Olympus also expected to announce a game changer shortly possibly 8k . Going to be a interesting start to 2019 that’s a certainty , bet the Nikon guys are chewing there fingernails . Everything now depends on ,price, quality, and compatibility ... but of course the real answer is do we really need it .... and will our present range of computers be able to handle it .... I think we are at the dawn of a bigger change than from film to digital ... time will tell

Re: Canon full frame mirrorless camera
It will be very interesting...will they be as bold to make a rangefinder style camera like the XPro2....or take the opportunity to change the familiar user interface.....like an f stop ring and dials instead of buttons and menus as so many have liked in the fuji and leica offerings.Brian Vickers LRPS

Re: Canon full frame mirrorless camera
Thanks Richard....not sure if that is similar in size to the 200D. Seems like the lenses are pro versions but the body is not if it only has one card slot. Maybe connectivity defeats the need for a second card if connected to internet or remote storage by WiFi and continual upload..that would be a first.Brian Vickers LRPS
