    Sport under floodlights

Hi , I have a risk 40d and a 100-400 f4-5.6 lens , i am struggling with photos under floodlights and wondered what body would be better with a higher iso . Currently looking at a 7d , would this body improve my pictures . Thanks in advance

The 7d MK1 isn't great in low light...so you may not see much of an improvement, I've owned the MK1 and mk2 and the mk2 was a little better. What is your budget? Can you post some photos? What settings are you using? You may need a high ISO to achieve a sharp, brighter shot. The 100-400 isn't great in low light, I have one...a 70-200 f2.8 would be so much better, but obviously they aren't cheap.

The 80d would be a good choice. It has a lot better high ISO performance, plus a much better autofocus system compared to the 40d. However, shooting under floodlights is always going to be tricky, which I guess is why professional sports photographers buy the most expensive cameras and lenses.

Depends what sport your shooting but I'm afraid your going to struggle whatever you use its not easy, best low light camera i would suggest is a 6D mkI or mkII depending on your budget not really a sports/action camera but very good at high ISO, i would not recommend the 7D in floodlit conditions.

You will also need a fast lens f2.8 or better f1.8 .

I used my 400 f2.8 for floodlit footy and my 135 f1.8 for indoor ice hockey and I'm still shocked at the slow speeds I'm getting even using iso settings 6400 /12800.

Dave_Richardson on this site might give you a better idea than me though.

Agree with the others, the 7D(mk1) wouldn't be a good choice for low light shots. I used to have a 40D and "upgraded" to the 7D which is a better all round camera, except for high iso noise. Personally I thought the 7D was not as good as the 40D in that respect.
