    Working the scene

I was out for lunch with family and friends on Wednesday, on the way to where we had booked lunch I spotted this tree. Unfortunately on that day I wasn't driving so I was without my camera kit. The tree just caught my (and others in the car) eye. I knew that I had to return to capture a frame or two.

As always your thoughts, comments and suggestions are most welcome.

    UPDATE

Having read the feedback received, I have added a revision for each image, see below.

#1 The initial view that caught my eye had to be the first frame.

#1 Version2, this revision was to crop off some from the right side as suggested. I also took a smidgen off the bottom edge.

    #2 Working the scene/subject matter.

#2 Version 2, in this revision the signpost has been relocated. Please don't tell the local highways planners

#3 A continuation, this is a three image vertical panorama.

#3 Version 2, I did look at a square crop which did work. However rather than just showing that, I decided to make a more portrait version by a bit of Photoshop trickery

    Re: Working the scene

#1: I find I want to lose a bit off the right side, probably to just where the road surface disappears.

#2: At the risk of getting mown down by a speeding sheep I wonder if stepping to the left a bit may have separated the fingerpost from the tree? Again I have an itch to lose a bit from the right side though that may just be a personal thing as I find the bright patch right on the edge a bit distracting. That said the colours are great and it's still a damn good picture anyway.

#3: Love it. As it's very nearly square I say why not finish the job and make it perfect...

      Re: Working the scene

I can see why you wanted to return to take some photos, that’s a really attractive scene.

No.3 is my favourite as I think that the composition and shape of the tree work best. No.1 is next. Shame that the sun went behind a cloud for the 2nd shot.

Your 3 shot panorama does place the tree nicely in the landscape

the first doesnt really work for me as the tree doesnt pop with the background, two would be good with the sign cloned out and three is the keeper

Yep, #3 for me too. I also like #2 even with the fingerpost where it is, although agree that a sliver off the right might make a small improvement.

It's the time of year for shots like these and all three are nice in their own way (although I agree with the crop suggestions for the first two). The third is a big bold image of a big bold tree so pick of the bunch for me too

I like all of those Peter, but No 3 is the best for me.

All very nice, Peter, can see why you wanted to go back to it, and also for me the third is the pick. Thinking about alternative crops I completely agree with others that a bit off the right would help the first two, but on the third I would consider lengthening the portrait aspect if you could. In the second the tree looks really tall, but you lose this in the third, I'm wondering if that is partly because the crop makes it feel like it is being 'squished' down - I really want to stretch it out, if that makes sense.
