Flickr Free Account to be limited to 1000 photos

Logged into Flickr on the PC today for the first time in a while and was initially presented with a screen indicating changes to the Free and Pro accounts.

I'm not sure what I'll do - probably end up upgrading as not sure of a decent alternative. Thanks SmugMug!

Speaking as a Pro member I don't see the 1000 photo limit to be too low. If you were doing it yourself you'd be paying host that many images on a web site and it would cost you a significant amount of cash...

You've got until 5th Feb 2019 to either pay up, delete 1700 of them yourself or let Flickr start deleting them for you.

Personally, I think deleting millions (maybe tens of millions) of photos is the wrong way to go. Sure, put a limit on new users and don't let existing users increase the number they have but this is a bad business decision IMO. I'm not sure which way I'm going to go yet...

I’ve already started reducing the number of images. Currently at 638

I have over 7000 images from the last ten years or so . its a no brainer for me as it actually works out to go "pro" the first year is £26 u.k pounds .
this gives us a year then to either stay there and see if it improves or find a alternative site , whilst actually going through the groundwork to get the prices I was also amazed to see that my photo stream has had over 7 million views that time .

considering most of us have a few thousand pounds worth of gear 50p a week is hardly going to break us .

it might also thin out some of the hard and soft core porn that's on there to

I have 2700 and I really don’t make use of it other than to make it easy to upload to this forum..and casually look back.
I don’t want to pay...albeit good value as I’m already paying subs for Zenfolio web site, Lightroom CC, EOS magazine, RPS....before you know it the costs accumulate to £300+ per year.

Re: Flickr Free Account to be limited to 1000 photos

I have had a pro account for quite some time and having just looked at my payment history up until September I was being charged $6.95 for
3 months and had not noticed but from September it jumped to $17.97 for three months and from December it will be charged at $5.99 per month - so it looks like they have upped the subscription without my knowledge

Have not got a lot of choice but to continue otherwise i will lose over 12000 images i have uploaded

I too have a Flickr Pro account, have 2,000+ photos uploaded... but I have only been charged $24.95 a YEAR, since 2015!

                        Lucky me I guess!

I wait to see what the subscription will be for next year - I have to renew Feb 2019!

I've culled a load of crud from my Flickr stream (it needed doing and they're all available elsewhere anyway) so am now below 1000 shots. Just.

Still not sure whether to a) keep below 1000 shots, b) open another account or c) pay up. I don't mind paying but I might just see how things pan out.

that is the same as me I think as they probably charge a little more for paying quarterly rather than annual

have you checked out your "settings" and "Manage your pro subscription" where i found that from my next billing, which is December, the subscription would be $49 or $5.99 a month. As your subscription is not due until Feb, that is the time when they will be wanting double

I have kept mine to just 2 pages since I first joined, images I want to keep are on an external hard drive for safe(ish) keeping.
