Re: The Fairey Swordfish Mk 1 W5856
Thanks Tom and Ian.
Ian, I used the Plustek OpticFilm 8100 scanner and SilverFast scanning software. In this case the 18 MP original scan looks a bit weak because I'm only after average colour strength and a good range of tones I can properly bring to life in ON1 software.
I also try to deal with the worst of a colour cast at the scanning stage and use a medium setting to slightly treat grain. I wish I hadn't used 81a filters so often.
I don't do all that for every scan -- depends what it is -- but most need proper processing outside of SilverFast. Scratches and spots need sorted too. Can be slow work!

Re: The Fairey Swordfish Mk 1 W5856
Thanks for the information, that is almost the exact setup that I am using, the only difference is that I have the 8200i scanner.
I have a quite a lot of slides that need scanning in so that’s it’s easier to view them and for archiving. I find I need to check exposure and contrast settings to make sure I get the best out of each one. This has also been a useful exercise for prints, the existing colour pics have degraded a lot over the years so it’s a been good to get good copies back from the negatives, and sometimes better that the original.
