    Femail Kingfisher

Blashford Lakes was a dead loss as far as kingfishers were concerned this yea rbut over the past few days i had noticed loads of posts on various facebook pages of kingfishers on the Stour. As its less than a mile from home, went over this morning and it was rather a kingfisher fest with both male and female landing on a post just 6 metres away, enabling almost full frame images zoomed to just 400mm!!

More of those later but first the female a little further away with the background provided by the foliage reflections in the water

          thanks Peter, Bill and Trev

It is the Stour Valley Nature Reserve at Muscliff, Bournemouth. If you look at the map , I usually either walk or cycle but if you park in the Granby Road car park, walk down to the river and turn left the area is by the outfall from the sewage treatment works - not sure exactly how far from the car park but probably around 3/4 mile.

no problem. I also saw an otter and water rail there but no shots as the former scooted off within seconds and the later was too much in cover for a clear shot. Had planned to have another look this morning but the constant rain has put paid to that idea
