        Re: 550D and Airshows..

On my full frame I found the 100-400 was adequate but they were a bit distant in some shots at Cosby, I took the 500 on the second day and although I got some good close ups it was like trying to swing around a lead drainpipe attached to the camera, even though I was using a monopod, for some over the top shots it felt like a bloody 88mm anti aircraft gun. The 100-400 should be ok on a crop sensor, but I would try to get close to the display line if you can, not necessarily at the front, but not in the carpark so to speak

Full Frame 500mm cropped down image so on a cropped sensor doable with a 400mm

As you know cosby 70-200 with 1.4 on a full frame, cropped image from display line shot at 135mm

and before they buggered up the display lines, shot at Cosby with a 70-200 and a 1.4 converter on a full frame from near the carpark!!!!! as it curves off its display line at 400MM 70-200 plus x2 converter sigh... so 400mm.

Thanks Tony,I went to Cosford with a mate three years ago I think it was,we went with Woods Coaches and got there early enough to spend plenty of time in the museum before the flying display started.

Is the museum of interest to you?If I go next year it's a good chance to try out my 10-18mm again.

I'll almost certainly take you up on your kind offer of a lift and will PM you a bit nearer the time if that's ok?
