    Hornets Nest

Had a rummage in the loft today. This past summer we've had a very healthy populations of hornets about the place, even in the bedroom one night at 2am! This is this years nest although there are several smaller ones behind it from previous years. They are actually right above our bed --- we sleep in the bedroom below, not in the loft
From top to bottom its 27 inches in length and 45 inches in diameter

Amazing Trev, but Mrs C would not be happy if that was in our attic!

Colin I can assure you that if Mrs B knew that was above our bed she would be packing her bags, I just hope she does not see this.

Impressive indeed. Is it still there or are you planning on removing it?

Tom, Yes I have taken it down. In fact I cut it in half long ways and given it to a local infant school that has a small Wildlife Museum.
It was no easy task, they are very delicate structures. First I sprayed it with starch, then got the electric kettle and boiled up some starch and let the vapour drift up inside the nest. Dried it out with the wives hairdryer and cut in in half with the bread knife with no problem whatsoever.
For Colin's information, yes I told Mrs B about it and how that I had now got rid of it - I never mentioned the Kettle, hairdryer or bread knife!

Nice shot and very good story line to go with it
