    Barney is back

    Hi All,

Some may recall I mentioned a Barn Owl being fished out of a trough in the Summer, from then I never saw another until a couple of weeks ago, please to say there appears to be a pair in residence again on the same Farm.

If only I could catch them in some decent light!!

Light on the first one looks pretty decent to me.

the light on the first is good but prefer the second for the better detail

          Really good Paul.

Like them both, but I prefer the modelling and shadow detail on the first. At the merest hint of sunlight and Barn Owls, I automatically under expose by at least one stop, or maybe one and a half. Those white feathers seem to burn out for a past time without a little help from the photographer. I have looked at your shots on Flickr and you have held the whites well.

Great shots, I haven't found one in any light up here yet.

Thanks for looking Guys, particularly the people who left encouraging comments.

Thanks for that info Colin, the field where I see this Owl has a lot of farm buildings in one corner ( the first shot is against a brick building) and the rest has hedge all round, I am constantly juggling the Exposure comp dial as the bird moves from having a dark background so I go to minus to having a sky background so I go positive, or at least I try to!! It changes from one to the other constantly and unpredictably

Two nice shots Paul of a wonderful bird , like the pose better in the second one but you must be thrilled with the prospect of another season with these if they make it through the winter
