    Barn Owl with new Camera

    Hi All,

Managed to persuade SWMBO to release funds for a Canon 1DXii, at the moment I am massively disappointed with my results, having said that, the light in Lincolnshire has been so drab and flat on the days I have been able to get out with the camera it has been super depressing and the location where the Barn Owls are hunting being surrounded by hedges or building mean all shots are high ISO, even at quite low speeds

I set it up pretty much as I had used my 7D2, not sure what I am doing wrong yet

Any settings advice would be greatly appreciated

Now Paul forgetting the photography perhaps you could explain how you managed to persuaded your good lady to allow you to buy a 1DXii. I'm sure any tips and advice would gratefully be received by many of us on here.

BTW, two excellent shots, can't see nothing wrong with them

Thanks to all who have commented. I have now confirmed there is a definite pair at this location, I have seen them both out hunting at the same time, fingers crossed they will produce some young

The 1DX2 is really good at high ISO - Love the pictures!!

At ISO 1000 the 1DX2 has no issue - in pact ISO6400 is still good - Unlike the 7D2 which seems of start getting grainy at 1600 with a max of 3200.

                          Hi Paul

Sorry you seem a little disappointed in some of your result,I've looked through some of your Flickr shots and must admit they do lack any fine detail even when you have shot at low ISO500/640 what software are you using to edit your shots at the moment.

                            Hi Paul,

Thanks for looking, that is what has been concerning me, the detail just isn't there to see. I am using LR Classic CC, occasionally moving shots to NIK efex for noise treatment or sharpening. Bearing in mind I have always used LR with my 7D2. The only thing different is that my LR5.7 would not process files from the 1DXii so had to change to LR classic.

I am desperate to catch the Owl in decent light, then I will definitely know
