you have retained detail well in the whites, presumably with negative exposure compensation which has also rendered the background nice and dark

No compensation adjustment Stan and apart from a wee bit of cropping, straight off the camera no processing either really, you get a nice low light this time of year first thing in the morning.

That works well for me with the light reflecting off the ripples of water into the plumage of the Gull.
