    Motive power

says it all really, the engineer in me loves this type of stuff.. Just look at all that lovely oil and grease with brutish heavy engineering built to last, but with the simplest of "cork bottle plugs" inserted in the filling points

I haven’t noticed the cork plugs when I’ve been looking at engineering of this type. I shall save these little bits of cork somewhere in the deepest part of my brain. Hopefully sometime in the future when I get close to a steam engine the corks will pop out of the grey matter and remind me to look closer.
    Thanks for posting this Tony

If you look at the sliders blocks that keeps the main piston rod parallel, just in front of the big connecting plate that connects to the little cylinder at the top you can see them just above the two rows of four bolts inline with the shaft and to the front, they looked like they had a metal inner pin, but looked like cork to me.

I have seen the corks and am pleased to confirm they are indeed made of cork.

Nice detail Tony, can almost smell the oil and steam.

Like that, when I was a kid I would have wanted to take it apart to see how it worked. Glad I've grown out of it - don't think I would get 5D MkIV back together again.
