    Caught a Worm

I love Great Crested Grebe's and they can be quite challenging to capture an image when they have caught a fish. They dive under, can stay under for minutes, when they do surface it can be a hundred yards away and within the first couple of seconds of emerging, they flip their prey and swallow. Generally, by the time you swing your camera to where they are, they have already swallowed their catch.

I have seen them catch Fish, I have seen them catch Crayfish, but never have I seen them catch a worm ........... until now.

A nice image Colin, we don't get many round here, but it certainly seems unusual for them to catch a worm under the water.

Lovely shot Colin and very unusual at that with a worm, saw one once bring up an eel but lost it before it could swallow it. As you say not an easy bird to capture with its prey.

Nice sharp shot. The only shots I have of them with a fish, the fish has actually been smaller than that worm.
Don’t do much bird photography these days but did go out last week. Spoke to someone who told me I should have been there 10mins earlier and then showed me shots of a grebe with a huge fish, that the grebe had to give up on in the end. Just my luck

Nicely caught, Colin. It must have been the early bird.
