    Re: Silver Arrow

It's not really working for me Ray and as I am a huge Hamilton fan, this should have been an easy like for me. It's just too dark.

In my experience, you either have to light a model well, with next to no shadows in order to show the detail and vibrancy, or go the other route and try something minimal and artistic. Try this one as an example of the artistic:

OK. I am now befuddled. Are you saying to achieve a more artistic shot or possibly low key I need to go darker? I can easily take it it perfect light with no shadows but that was not what I was after.
Forgive I could be wrong but I see little difference in the intended effect with your pic. In fact I could level the same criticism

        Re: Silver Arrow

I like it, I would be tempted to tweak the vibrance to give it a bit more punch though.
        Canon 1DX, 50D, EF500 F4.0 L, EF100-400 f/4.5-5.6L I , EF100-400 f/4.5-5.6L II, EF70-200 f/2.8L II, EF180 f3.5L Macro, EF 24-105 f/4L, EF17-40 f/4L, EF2.0X III, EF1.4X III, 430EX II, MR-14EX...

Sorry Ray but there is a big difference between the two.

          1. Yours is not pure black in the background. Looks as if the shadows have been lifted.
          2. Where the second image you see the contrast, the 1st is flat.
          3. in the 2nd the car stands out from the background based on how it is lit, while the 1st seems to blend into the background.

Hmm thanks Tom. Looks like I shall have to revisit the pic. As Arnie says “I’ll be back”

I tried close up, it can be frustrating getting the right look.
This was shot with two flash units.

                One of my favourite cars.

Nicely lit and that works well against the black background.

Thanks Colin, took a few attempts to get this.
