    Woodpecker

Pretty little girl, so it would have been rude not to photograph her.

Indeed I have Stan. My very first visit and although I don't normally do forest birds, it was a very pleasant day out and my first hide ever with proper chairs and cushions.

Quite fortunate really as my big lens was in the car, no time to get it so I had to work with what I had. That was a 200-400mm with the 1.4x switched in and another 1.4x on the back of that, giving 784mm. Still had to crop the final image a little for a reasonable composition.

It is one place you can almost guarantee seeing great spotted woodpeckers, sometimes 3 coming in to the different feeders and as you say probably the most comfortable hide around. Did you go along the the hide by the scrape. Not a lot of birds but spoonbills are quite close on a reasonably regular basis, usually after I have left

Spent nearly three hours there. Met one other photographer, saw two Black Headed Gulls and had a fly-by of a Little Egret. Didn't take a single shot, so I went back to the first hide.

i got kingfishers on the sticks right in front of the hide and some greenshanks but that was over 12 months ago and really nothing since
