    2x Extender

I often use the 1.4x extender, but have never been a fan of the 2x. In fairness, I have generally used it in desperation and generally in poor light, so perhaps I never gave it a fair chance.

However, today I was going for Kingfishers and the li'll devils stayed the opposite side of the River Stour and even with my biggest lens and a 1.4x, it was going to be too big a crop to get a reasonable shot. So on with the 2x and that also meant manual focussing, but needs must.

I was very pleasantly surprised to get some rather good shots and this one even has a bit of a crop added.

              Super shot Colin.

              One of my favourite birds.

Great detail and is set off well against the dark background - and at 1600mm!?

Many thanks for your kind comments.

Not necessarily my best Kingfisher shot, but I thought she looked a rather pretty girl set against the dark background, which was quite a large hollow behind her that wasn't receiving any light. I was rather fortunate she happened to be perching in direct sunlight, accentuating the iridescent blue plumage.

By default, it was a test of this lens with a 2x and owing to previous experience, I was prepared to be disappointed. It looked OK on the rear screen, but I am never happy until I view them on my monitor. Big sigh of relief all round.
