Will the Canon EF 1.4x III Extender work on the 80D?

I’ve just treated myself to the Canon EF 100-400mm f4.5-5.6 L IS II USM Lens, hoping to capture some birds that are as good as many I see posted here. Now I’m saving up for the EF 1.4x III Extender, but someone I spoke to last night at our Camera Club suggested that it might not work on a cropped sensor camera such as my 80D. Has anyone tried this? Don’t want to waste my money, or be forced to buy a full frame camera!

Yes it will work, I used it on a 7d mk2 with the mk1 lens... Iirc it is center point af only and f8... AF was a little slower but apparently the mk2 lens is quicker...

Thanks for your quick reply. I think he must have been muddling up the EF lenses with the EF-S lenses.

        Beware of camera club experts...

From the 80D page on the Canon UK website:

        27 f/8 compatible AF points

Keep shooting sharp images using the Auto Focus system when you use different lens combinations and extenders thanks to 27 AF points that support focusing at f/8.
The extender is an EF lens accessory, it is therefore compatible with all EOS EF/EF-s mount SLR cameras. It is compatible with many L lenses, mostly telephoto types (including the 100-400mm), but not with standard or EF-s types.

              The 80D + 100-400ii + 1.4xiii is a great combo. I use it all the time.

Plus you get 9 AF points at f/8.

              Enjoy!
