    Hover in

There's something very frustrating, to me at least, about photographing insects and that is the massive crops I have to do not having a macro lens. However now and then I get one or two that are sort of ok.
Took the 7D2 and 100-400 F4L 11 and a cup of tea into the garden to see what was around. Having consumed the tea and not seen much in the way of birdlife I noticed the hover flies.

A couple from about 200 attempts all handheld.
    First one 1/640@F11 ISO400 214mm

    Second one 1/400@F11 ISO1250 234mm

Well done I think you’ve managed very well with capturing these. Of the two I prefer the second one.

Two out of two hundred for natural macro shots? I'd say you've done rather well.

Nice work, well done, I did the same sort of thing last year, but find with a tripod it helps to experiment with shutter speeds to get different wing effects.
