    A Grey Day.

Looks like we had our summer last week, back to the dull, grey days.

Quite a dramatic sky but the light is so poor, looks like a place to revisit on a stormy and sunny day for the drama

I know you don't like post processing, but this image calls out for some post processing. To help you better expose for in-camera, I would suggest using a ND-Grad Filter to keep the sky dark and then exposes for the foreground.

A lovely scene with good composition and cropping but the light hasn't done you any favours. HDR would be one approach but, especially if shot in RAW, a modest amount of processing (just reduce the highlights, increase the shadows and tweak the contrast) would produce something special.

That's all I've done here (working from your jpeg) and the clouds have more structure and detail has been extracted from the foreground:

Hanks John, you are all showing me the errors of my stubborn way, I must try & improve my “ in camera” technique.
