    Mono/popped Golden Gate Bridge

I'm not sure if this works - what think you?

I don’t really think it works but would like to see the original to compare.

Sorry but the poping isn't working for me

That said, I've also stood on that viewpoint and taken a similar shot but I doubt my composition was as well considered as yours which is spot on.

      Cheers,
      John

        Re: Mono/popped Golden Gate Bridge

        Thank you the two Johns.

I only tried this treatment because we had not been blessed with normal Californian sunshine on the day of our visit to the bridge. The resulting images were rather wishy-washy (see below) and so I thought that I might as well take the background to mono. I think that if the bridge were a more strident shade, it might have just worked.

        One lives and learns!

I have to confess it required a certain amount of gentle insinuation of my person into the crowd on the rails to pursuade the selfie-takers that their 15 seconds of fame were over and that they should move on and allow someone else a crack of the whip!

Now that I like. Much better in colour (color?) having the same muted tones of an old postcard

It was pre-selfie when I was there so didn't have to fight my way through the sticks. I did have my picture taken though

          Cheers,

Hardly surprising for such a handsome chap as yourself!

I quite like both versions. My only comment is that it's a pity the boat is sailing out of the frame.

I did toy with the idea of eliminating the boat in PS, but decided it was probably not worthwhile.

                    I like the popped version.
The full colour is fine ….its a good composition and well exposed representation and a documentary shot.

The popped version makes the man made steel structure stand out from the surroundings.
Ask any one about the golden gate bridge and they will talk about its colour and not the colour of the rather dull landscape around it....so from a surrealist point of view it hits the spot?

Sorry....I'm reading Susan Sontag's - 'on photography' at the moment and I might be getting carried away!

I prefer the popped version, for the same reasons as Brian but he articulated much better than I could have done so I'm glad he got there first. I do think it worth getting effort of deleting the boat, though.
