    My first Cave.

I went down this cave many years ago with some friends. Much of it is an old, disused Roman mine just outside of Bath. We used acetylene lamps to light our way and all we could see was a whole load of black, with just a pencil beam of light in front of us.

I took this photo from a tripod, a long exposure and me running around light painting with a flash unit. It was only after developing and printing the film that we could appreciate the scene, rather than the pencil of light we were seeing at the time.

Interesting scene and good technique, I like that a lot

I used to go caving in the Mendips and agree the lighting we used then was appalling. I progressed from Acetylene through ex miners lead-acids to some home-made lamps using halogen bulbs (tremendous light but only for a couple of hours as I found on one trip down Swindon's ) Oh to have had then the LEDs we have now.

    Cheers,
    John

Nice shot Colin, caves are not my thing, don't mind heights but caving NO. Had to do some filming once of Bats in a cave system. Was down there for over eight hours, I was not a happy bunny.
