Lovely shot, lovely birds. Once had the privilege of filming these in the Shetland Islands.

Quite strange really, IIRC in UK you need a license to photograph at the nest. On the reserve where I took this image a footpath went within 5m of RTD nest. In a load of reeds so not a photography location.

I had to smile when I saw this, 16000 images. Just thinking way back in the early 1980's when I was in the Shetland's I think I took about twenty or thirty shots of a Red Throated Diver, and that was considered a lot. Especially when you were using Kodachrome 25/64 at seven quid odd a roll.
Just think 16000 shots that would have been 444 rolls of film at a mere 3108 quid. To this day I do not take loads of shots I try and make every shot count as I did way back in the days of film.

I know what you mean use to go to Orkney to do bird photography and take 30-40 rolls of film and if you got 10% good shots from a roll that was reasonably good. I think now we can take a burst which is helpful when trying to capture RTD take off or landing. We tried to make most of time we had, shooting for about 12 hours each day. Binned quite a lot already as either not quite in focus, too distant and I know it might sound strange for Iceland quite a few images have suffered due to heat haze. Yes we did have excellent weather, half day of rain in 16 days. Seems all the rain was here in the UK!

Still wonder how we managed with 36 shouts, manual focus and at one time manual metering too.
