34046 Braunton at Hollicombe - another viewpoint :-)

Seen here at Hollicombe with the beach and cove to the right and the now removed siding that served the old (out of shot and long demolished) gasworks to the left the site of which became a park.

Incidentally, part of the train is in Paignton while the other, from about the fourth coach backwards, is in Torquay. The tail of the train is in the deep cutting that, until 1910, was Breakneck Tunnel. Braunton is just about at the spot where a broad gauge train comprising of locomotive 'Meteor' and three carriages derailed in 1866.

                Thanks Trev

Not quite on the bridge but near as makes no difference. It was looking over the wire fence just before it which was once a classic viewpoint (especially when the gasworks was there) but vegetation grew so high it obliterated the view. Then along came the shiny new Class 800s that GWR didn't want to get scratched so Network Rail removed all the trees. Bad for the twitchers, good for the gricers.

                Cheers,
                John
