    6233 Duchess of Sutherland

My effort of what was not a good day, very overcast this morning and to add to the problem the train itself.
I should have stayed where I first set myself up on the far side of the bridge, at least I would have got the shot without the smoke.

Gave it another go this evening on its return journey at Cockwood Harbour. It was running 34 minutes late - about right! by which time the light was failing.

Both are great photos Trev, well done.

Were there many at Cockwood Harbour waiting to photograph the steam tour?

I kicked myself in the morning I already got myself sorted the up-line side of the bridge, then for no reason decided to go to the other side, won't make that mistake again.
There were quite a few at Cockwood Harbour to start with, the light was very good. But someone got a message to say it was running 34+ minutes late and a few left, then when the sun dipped below the tree's a few more left, there were five of us there when it passed.
Had to laugh when one of them told me, hanging around was one of the problems of railway photography. I told him I spent three hours that morning from 05.30 hanging around in a field waiting for some Hares to arrive.
Once again many thanks for all the information, times etc.

I may be shot down with this but the smoke makes the shot in my view.
The visibility for the crew was often obscured by drifting smoke as the size of the boiler made a taller chimney impossible within the loading gauge. The smoke deflectors helped but the problem remained throughout their life.

          Great record shot.

Thanks Bob, your comments were those of my wife who used to live next to a railway line and go to school on a steam train they used to close their windows when the train passed if the wind was in their direction.
The image is growing on me, although I went out to photograph a train not anything arty tarty

Well they might not be arty-farty, but I think they are great captures. I wish I had gone to a viewing site that is closer to the ground (makes mental note for next time!)

I wouldn't worry about the smoke in the first myself, it's just authentic
