    Greece, a photographer's paradise!

Having been born and raised in Greece, I had the possibility to explore many of its wonderful places and not just those usually made available to organized tourist groups.

There are several photographic opportunities for the solo tourist, ranging from the typical ancient ruins to underwater photography of world war II aircraft- and ship wrecks.

The hundreds of inhabited Greek islands, plus a few more hundred of uninhabited rocks scattered all about the Greek seas, the incredible transparency of sea water, rivers, lakes, mountainous landscapes, wildlife, little-known ancient sites, quaint tiny villages nested on mountain sides (or tops), byzantine ruins- and well preserved churches, old castles and fortresses, built several centuries ago, by invaders of the country, underwater ruins of old towns, bizarre vegetation species, even modern buildings of rare beauty.

Beautiful coastlines, and isolated coves with olive groves and pine trees reaching the waterfront, are also a majour attraction not only for taking photos but also for taking a swim in crystal clear waters!

Small harbours hosting mainly fishing boats, are a huge resource of inspiration and lovely shots! Most local fishermen love to be photographed by visitors while at work. Of course, museum exhibits and the well-known ancient cultural ruins, can always be seen from an unconventional angle and lighting conditions for unusual shots!

While organized tours, generally, cost less, you can find opportunities for genuine and low-cost ventures into Greek natural settings even in “solo” mode. The cost of living in small and non-mainstream tourist places is a lot lower compared to cosmopolitan areas such as Mykonos, Rodos or Santorini and offer a lot more opportunities to photographers.
