    Hummingbird Hawk Moth

Just come back from what is now our annual fortnight holiday at Levisham in North Yorkshire . While taking some photos of trains in the Garden i spotted sometthing buzzing about the flower beds , i'd never seen anything like it and it took some looking up on the Tinternet . Didn't have time to change the lense hence it was taken handheld with the Sigma 150-600 Sport .

Its a moth I really want to see. Looks like you've managed to get a decent image in what looks like flat light.

Nice capture Gordon, I’ve not spotted any this year. They in my experience seem to be creatures of habit, returning to the same areas of the garden to feed. They remind my of harrier jump jets coming in at speed and then in hover mode and just as quickly off at speed.

Nice capture, I have only ever seen one and that was last year hovering over my hanging basket full of petunias.

Two nice shots. I'm fairly lucky then, This year Ive had about six sightings, all around late June to mid July but none since then. The two previous years, I had sightings most days over about a six week period, always on a buddleia bush, except for the first sighting this year, which was on some lavender.

Update: There's one on the buddleia at the moment.
