    View down Glen Tilt

Out on a walk on a grey cold day today. Glen Tilt looking passed Blair Castle ( just see the turret centre of shot) onto Schiehallion the Munro in the background.

Nice perspective David. If you plan on doing landscape work like this, and I know you are one to want to get it right in camera, you need to invest in some square neutral density graduated filters. This way you will be able to balance the sky exposure with the foreground exposure. Here I think a 3 stop ND grad filter would of prevented the sky for blowing out while exposing for the foreground. Your only other choice is bracketing the image then combining the images together in post processing.

Tom's comments are spot on. Bracketing or use of grad ND filter would improve this type of image. Personally I think you could lose some of the foreground too.

Thanks for the advice Tom & echoed by the others. I have now collected my wish list of lenses & am now trying to work out what filters 1/ I can afford & 2/ which to get for which lens, so no doubt will be coming back to you all for further advice in the future.

FYI, what I do is get the holder and filter for you largest lens, the buy set down rings for the smaller lens I may use.

I use a Cokin P size which takes upto 3 filters...and ND grads from SRB.....the filter holder and adaptor rings for the two different filter thread sizes I needed was £40 recently...I already had the filters. P size is ok for up to 24mm wide on full frame...but can vignette if I use a screw on filter between lens and Cokin holder.

Thanks for all the advice I am totally out of my depth re filters but as usual this forum has helped me get into the shallows & feel a bit safer to start icing into filters. Better start saving.
