    What next for "L" lenses?

It seems reasonably clear that Canon are committed to the mirrorless path as well as maintaining the conventional DSLR, and I know that with an adapter you can use your existing L lenses on the R series cameras.

However, if the R mount gives such significant benefits to lens design (as has been claimed by Canon) is there a possibility of L class native R-mount lenses in the future?

I would think so - as soon as there's a professional level body...

The RF 24-105 f4 that came with my R is an L lens, and it is an absolute belter!
