    Dartford Warbler

No caterpillars found today, but this one was watching my every move. Still seems to be a few around out on the open heath, no doubt they will be moving into thicker cover before long now.

Nice shot, made better by the yellow gorse.
I'm in Dorset for a week on Friday, staying at Corfe, mainly to do some landscape/seascape stuff. Is Arne a good place to try and see one, as I've only ever seen a couple at a distance.

              Hi John
Yes there are Dartfords at RSPB Arne. I've only been there a few times, each time in the spring and I've always seen them. They are inclined at this time of year to seek out more dense thicket areas rather than the open heathland. There's still several around the East Devon Heathlands where I live, so don't see why there won't be any at Arne - Best of luck

Thanks for the info Trev, I'll try and visit. It'll make a change from using a 16-35 for most of the week.

most likely is from the Coombe Heath trail which is accessed to the right of the car park(facing away from the road), not so likely from the Shipstal trails (to the left) but that is where there is more chance of seeing the sika deer.

My dartford warblers have mainly come either from Hengistbury Head (towards Christchurch), in the field past the visitor centre, or a little further along the coast at Keyhaven Marshes

                        Re: Dartford Warbler

Thanks everyone for looking and your kind comments. Was rather pleased to get this one of it within its habitat, all too often they are perched on top of a gorse bush with an uninteresting plain BG - or worse darting around within a gorse bush.
