    New work laptop

I'm looking to accommodate photography as well as work on a new laptop.
Thinking of an HP with i7 processor, 16GB Ram and 1TB static hard drive....it comes with Nvidia MX250...

my question is....is this graphics chip good enough for photography using Lightroom and DPP....or is it the Achilles heel?

    Can anyone recommend a spec?

    Re: New work laptop

The mx250 is an entry level chip, but still offers approx 3.5 the power of built in Intel graphics in a laptop. People also use for video editing, and there are no bad reviews for gaming power. I use a built in graphics chip, and it was fine for lightroom and PS, adding a ssd and upping the ram to 16gb made a huge difference, so I think you'll be OK.

Thanks for this....I’ve looked at the Apple alternatives to a PC but they are compromised in RAM and £1k more for the same spec....except no dedicated GPU on MacBooks ....looks like the HP is a good option

This computer has come top in several reviews. My background is over 20 years in IT (Now retired). Chillblast have a good reputation for high spec specialist PCs.

My editing PC was from Chillblast, it’s a bit long in the tooth now but fingers crossed it does everything I need it to.

Sadly Apple seem to have jumped the shark when it comes to laptops - the worst part being the keyboard which is horrible. Definitely look at gaming laptops if you want a decent graphics card though I’d suggest you make sure Adobe support any card you decide on. Won’t be cheap though, a fully loaded MacBook Air and a Chillblast model look to be about the same price

Have you considered going iPad Pro instead

Thanks All. I need to stick with Windows for work reasons...clients have macros in their documents that don’t work properly even using office for Mac. Seems their creators just don’t test for mac compatibility. Apple lcds are not quite up to 4K yet. Great systems with the best trackpads but a bit behind and still a significant premium in price.
